Elle Hearts Carly's!

Think of Pita Jungle only hip, a bar only more laid back, and a coffee house only less intimidating... does that make sense? Of course not, but somehow Carly's brings this perfect combination of all the places I love to find myself. A friend of mine suggested trying something new within walking distance of her office. Easy enough, so we walked to the two blocks over to Carly's and were happy with what we found. The girl behind the counter yells out for us to seat ourselves as we walk in the door. Our server was promptly at our table to take drink orders and make recommendations. My number one pet peeve when trying a new restaurant is a server who doesn't really know the menu but our server helped us pick our appetizer which is was not so typical "Spinach/Artichoke" dip. More along the lines of a hummus than an overly creamed dip. My gyro was great but I had a little food envy toward my friend who got the "Pear" with prosciutto, pear, and brie... which will probably my order next time. The service was unbeatable during lunch hour in Phoenix with just the right amount of attention paid and ice tea glasses that were never empty. OH! And I hear they have Saturday brunch with mimosas and bloody mary's... I will be back for that soon and let you know how it goes!

Elle Hearts Wraps!

Please excuse my always mediocre photography, but I like to put up my own pics, even if they're taken on my cell phone through a car window when I'm running late to get back to work after my lunch break...
So, todays adventure took my over to "That's a Wrap!" on 7th Street between Palm and McDowell (full address will be at the end of the post). A friend of mine recommended this to me, said it was just up my alley of inexpensive but good quality and kick ass people. Well, who says no to that?
Parking was a little terrifying cuz the place was already packed at 1145am and their parking area is a little cramped. Ended up being well worth the effort, including a long line. There's a reason people are willing to wait for a parking place for their wraps. The menu included wraps, salads (which can be converted to wraps, and rice bowls. All fresh produce made the Cypress salad (turned into a wrap) crispy and delicious with tender lean chicken. Came with some fresh chips and homemade salsa which was the perfect side. I also stole.. I mean borrowed... some of my friends side of pasta salad. This is going to make it tougher to choose next time I'm there. A well-rounded, high quality meal for around $10.

Elle Hearts Coffee

There are an endless amount of original coffee houses all over Phoenix but one of my absolute favorites is Royal at the Market. The Saturday crowds show that I am not the only one who appreciates the convenience of having it located in the same lot as the Phoenix Public Market. Follow the smell of the freshly roasting coffee beans. The choices of coffee, tea, and pastries will satisfy any coffee house lover. Owner Hayes McNeil is generally working behind the counter making conversation and coffee. Saturday people watching is another reason to stop by. Conveniently located right near ASU's downtown campus, if this place was around when I was in college I would have never stepped foot in a Starbucks. Stop in Wednesdays and Saturdays while the farmers' market is there or any other day for a slower pace or on Phoenix First Fridays for even more excitement.

Elle Hearts Blood into Wine

Love wine? Where's your favorite from? California? Australia? How about Arizona wines? Now I know this "Blood into Wine" has been thoroughly hyped for being about Maynard James Keenan's vineyards. Have you, the grapes are being grown in Northern Arizona, NOT Phoenix but the movie made its premier here at the W Scottsdale in February and is continuing screenings now. I have a feeling this film is really going to open up the Arizona wine market to other states but the film itself is a lot of fun in its documentary style but still has some great cameos including Milla Jovovich and Patton Oswalt. Check out the movie if you get a chance, then check out some of the wines and let me know what you think about them!

Elle Hearts Blogging!!

Hello Phoenicians!! My name is Elle and I've been thinking, I love Phoenix! It may have taken me awhile (been living here for nearly 7 years now) but I think if there were more people out here who were showing me all the amazing hidden... and not so hidden... amazing places in the city, I would have known it a long time ago. So here I am, personally spreading the word on all of my favorite places in Phoenix... and on occasion some of the surrounding cities. So coffee houses, farmers markets, restaurants, events, bars and clubs... if I love it, you will hear about it.
My favorite places are hard to find and not commonly known but also include places many of us go to and just love to chat about. I'll let you know about places I've recently stumbled upon, places that are worth waiting in line for, and hopefully places my readers recommend to me. I hope to be posting at least weekly if not more so please keep checking back and please comment what you're thinking!!
